Cummins Diesel Power Will Continue

Posted on February 5th, 2010 by Ram Zone

Diesel fanatics rejoice! Continuing one of the most successful relationships in automotive history, Ram and Cummins have announced a multi-year contract extension to ensure that the B-series engines will continue to deliver class leading torque in the Ram HD line. The contract extension is music to the ears of Ram HD owners, as 80% tick the 6.7-liter diesel option when purchasing their heavy hauler. And with the new 2010 line of trucks, Ram has the quietest, greenest, and smoothest diesel engined trucks on the road. All that and 17,600 lbs of towing capacity? Translation: now you can buy a bigger boat.

Cummins Turbo Diesel: The Cleanest Meanest Engine Around

Posted on January 26th, 2010 by Ram Zone

A true workhorse with best-in-class low-end torque, the Cummins 6.7L Turbo Diesel comes standard on all Ram 3500s. (In fact, it’s the only truck in its class to offer a diesel engine standard.) A truly peerless power train, the Cummins was a key reason that the Ram HD was named Motor Trend’s 2010 Truck of the Year.

But did you know it’s also one of the cleanest, quietest, most eco-friendly motors available? To put it in perspective, the Cummins Turbo Diesel met 2010 emission requirements way back in 2007 — leading the way for the innovations achieved in this year’s incarnation. Cummins used a High Pressure Common Rail fuel system and cooled exhaust gas recirculation to lower emissions. And they didn’t forget noise pollution in the process: the NVH (Noise, Vibration and Harshness) dampening features in the 2010 model have led to a 50 percent quieter engine and all-around reduction in cabin noise levels. Wouldn’t you know it: The Ram Heavy Duty is the strong, silent type.

Watch the Yeti Custom Truck Demolish Winter

Posted on January 25th, 2010 by Ram Zone

Here’s a video to cheer up anyone who’s already sick of winter’s wrath. Using a modified Ram 3500 Cummins diesel, 76-inch tractor tires, Unimog portal axles and a Samson machine, fabricator Rex Bailey built his Yeti custom truck (named after the abominable snowman) in 2007 to conquer up to three feet of snow like it was nothing. As the video shows, with that much clearance, the Yeti makes shoveling a thing of the past — if you’ve got the spare time to build one.

NAIAS Preview: 2011 Ram Chassis Cab

Posted on January 8th, 2010 by Ram Zone

If you’re one of the lucky attendees at this year’s North American International Auto Show in Detroit (open to the public January 16 – 24), you’ll be among the first to lay eyeballs on the new 2011 Ram Chassis Cab line-up — specifically, the monstrous 3500, 4500 and 5500 models. These bad boys make up Ram’s new commercial-grade work force.

To get a sense of the sheer strength and capability of these workhorses, understand they’ll be offering up the largest standard fuel tank (a massive 52 gallons), front-break rotors (390 mm) and calipers (66 mm) around. The 4500 and 5500 also offer standard a diesel-exhaust break and 6.7-liter Cummins High-Output Turbo Diesel (an option on the 3500 model). Want to check it out for yourself? Get to the NAIAS for the new line-up’s official public debut.

Chat with Ram Engineers in the Dec. 8 Cummins Forum

Posted on December 7th, 2009 by Ram Zone

Got a question for a Ram or Cummins engineer? Well, now’s your chance to hear from the guys who built the 2010 Ram Heavy Duty and the 6.7-liter Cummins Turbo Diesel, one of the cleanest, most powerful diesels on any commercial pickup. Whether you want to know about different transmission options, the benefits of the diesel exhaust brake, or anything else Cummins-related, the engineers will be answering your questions tomorrow. Click here to post your questions in advance between now and tomorrow afternoon. Then check back on Tuesday, December 8, between 5:30 and 7:00 pm Eastern, to be a part of the conversation. If you aren’t a TDR subscriber, don’t worry — the good folks hosting the forum at Turbo Diesel Register have waved the subscription fee to allow non-members to participate. A Ram Walk-Through of the LA Auto Show

Posted on December 6th, 2009 by Ram Zone

Your feet have to be Ram Tough to get through the massive LA Auto Show. But the effort is certainly worth it.

Divided into three display areas, the vast Los Angeles Convention Center has an energetic South Hall that’s jam-packed with interactive displays, games, and tons of auto eye candy that make it feel more like the world’s largest toy store for grown-ups.

But the highlight is actually the West Hall. Wear your walking shoes.

Along with an enormous Dodge display, the West Hall offers up sprawling acreage dedicated to Ram¹s 2010 trucks, which in their first-ever exhibit dominate the floor space without any gimmicky embellishments.

The imposing 3500 Heavy Duty Cummins Turbo Diesel lords over a living-room-size space with its imposing grill and new Crew Cab, accompanied by the Ram 2500, with innovations that only add to its already impressive strength and utility. The new 1500, meanwhile, shows off an impressively refined interior that sets new standards of comfort for powerful light-duty trucks.

For those who want to inspect every detail (or just want to see the coolest display in the entire show), one Ram 3500 Heavy Duty is hacked apart to reveal a full cutaway view, exposing its intricate innards from bumper to bumper, with key features clearly labeled and explained. This is how you show off a truck — by letting people see the powerful guts that drive it.

Click through the photo gallery below to see more from the LA Auto Show. And if you’re in the neighborhood, stop by to say hi to your new Rams — the show is open to the public until December 13.
