Ram Truck Brand Revs It Up at 25th STIHL Timbersports Series

This weekend, the Ram Truck brand was on hand at the Oregon State Fair for the 25th anniversary of the STIHL Timbersports Series. It was six solid days of sweat, sawdust, and swearing, and it left us feeling manlier than a Stallone movie. We watched the top lumberjacks from across the nation compete for the coveted eight spots in the semi finals and the chance to test their mettle against the best in the biz. From there, the top eight were whittled down to four and entered to compete in the Series Championships on Sunday. The final round consisted of several grueling competitions, including Boom Run, Speed Climb, and a rigorous skill assessment across six key disciplines, including Springboard Chop, Stock Saw, Standing Block Chop, Single Buck, Underhand Chop, and Hot Saw.

As was somewhat to be expected, lumberjack legend Jason Wynyard swept the top finish in the six timed events, while reigning champ Alyse Schroeder snagged first in the Boom Run and Brian Bartow claimed the Speed Climb.

If you missed out on all the action this weekend, hit the jump for a firsthand view of the messy, loud excitement. Read More

Cummins 6.7′s Biggest Fan (Pt 6): No Feet with Exhaust Brake

As anyone who has ever done any significant hauling in a diesel rig can attest to, an exhaust brake is a necessary upgrade to avoid completely vaporizing your wheel brakes. An aftermarket system can set you back a pretty penny though, which is why Cummins engineered the VGT turbocharger. Check out the video above as Chief Design Engineer Dave Connor gives our buddy Tim an exhaustive run-down on how the new feature works.

This trip marks the final chapter in Tim’s Cummins adventure, but the show’s far from over. We’ll continue to bring you all of the latest news, pics and vids from Ram Truck HQ – including interviews with the engineers that made these mammoth machines possible. Be sure to bookmark RamZone.com to keep up with all of the impending excitement, and don’t forget to visit us on Twitter and Facebook.

Ram Trucks Launches Vehicle Info App for Smartphones

For your inner gadget guru, Ram Trucks has unveiled a new (free) Smartphone app engineered to educate you on every aspect of your vehicle – right down to the cup holders. Every convenience that the Internet, your buddy at the dealership, and your friend with the encyclopedic knowledge of trucks can provide is now encompassed in one sleek package. Vehicle specs, maintenance reminders, warning indicators, customer assistance, official Mopar accessories, and owner communities are all just a touch/click/slide away. It’s all literally just one click away, and can be easily accessed from anywhere: in line at the DMV, the decorative yet uncomfortable bench in that boutique that your wife likes, the sofa in your man cave, etc.

In a nutshell, it gives you the ability to go toe-to-toe with other pickup guys without memorizing everything down to the wiring diagram (even though we’re pretty sure you’ve done that already). To check it out for yourself, head to the iPhone app store, and start downloading!

STIHL Timbersports Celebrates 25th Anniversary with Ram Trucks

This weekend, STIHL Timbersports will celebrate 25 years of extreme sports at the Oregon State Fair in Salem. Since 1985, STIHL Timbersports has been challenging lumberjack athletes to test their saw savvy in several key events including Springboard Chop, Stock Saw, and Underhand Chop. Today, the event is one of ESPN’s longest running shows (second only to SportsCenter) and continues to pique the interest of spectators and participants alike. Proud to be a part of this momentous occasion, Ram Trucks will be on the ground in Oregon this weekend as the official sponsor to show our support for these accomplished athletes. When we’re not standing in awe as Jason Wynyard executes another flawless Standing Block Chop, we’ll be posting live event coverage across Twitter, Facebook, and right here on RamZone. Whether you’ll be joining us in Salem or tuning in from home, be sure to keep your eyes on us for official pics, vids, and maybe even a Tweet-to-Win contest.

Cummins 6.7’s Biggest Fan (Part 4): Exhaust System Explained

In 2010, a new set of emissions standards meant that most diesel trucks required Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) additive in order to pass muster. Thanks to the clean technology in the 6.7L Cummins turbo diesel, the 2010 Ram HD is not one of those trucks. Check out the video above to watch Chief Engineer of Aftertreament Intergration explain to our buddy Tim exactly how the whiz kids at Cummins made this possible.
